Quartier des Spectacles
The Montreal’s Quartier des Spectacles (Spectacles Neighborhood) is centered on the intersection of St-Catherine Street and St-Laurent Boulevard.
It covers almost a square kilometer between City Councilors Street, Berri Street, Sherbrooke Street, and Rene-Levesque Boulevard.
The area is home to 30 performance halls which host international festivals, a few art galleries and exhibition halls.
The Quartier des spectacles is part of Montreal's downtown, and the city's cultural heart. Among the newest additions to the Quartier des Spectacles, there is the Place des Festivals (Festivals Square), located on the "Balmoral Block" on Jeanne Mance Street, facing Place des Arts.
The Place des Festivals is conceived as a focal point for outdoor events. A new cultural space over the St-Laurent subway station houses Les Ateliers de danse moderne de Montréal, the Maison du Festival de Jazz (Jazz Festival House).
