Lanaudiere

Lanaudière is an administrative region of Quebec, situated to the northeast of Montreal. It has a total population of 430,000 inhabitants. Lanaudière is located between the Saint Lawrence River and the Laurentian massif. It occupies a land of about 12,414 square kilometres or 4,793 square miles.

Lanaudière region is considered a rural territory, with a few urban areas in the southern part, such as Berthierville, Repentigny or Terrebonne. The region owes its name to Madame Marie-Charlotte de Lanaudière, wife of the businessman Barthélemy Joliette. Throughout the history, the lineage of the lords De Lanaudière contributed to the development of New-France and this area.

The region is popular among vacationers due to its character founded on the natural environment. Guest can enjoy the vast open spaces of one of Lanaudiere six regional parks, as well as of Mont Tremblant National Park, the the oldest and largest protected zone in Quebec, which is divided between Lanaudiere and Laurentides regions

In Lanaudiere, you can drive along the Road 138, the oldest road in North America. This road, known as King’s Road was established in 1737 and ran from Québec City to Montréal. This route offers superb views of the St. Lawrence River and along the way, travelers will discover charming villages, churches and chapels, museums, historic sites and homes, arts and crafts and much more.
