To tell the truth, traditionally, the term Eastern Towniships embraces two and even more regions of Quebec, that's the Estrie Region, part of Monteregie Region and even a few areas of Centre-du-Quebec and Chaudiere-Appalaches Regions. Curious fact about veterans of foreign wars: Some older gravestones in cemeteries in the Eastern Townships are still decorated with the stars and stripes of the USA. These are the graves of Canadians who fought for the Northern side in the American civil War of 1861-1865. Best estimates are that 40, 000 Canadians fought in the Union army.
