Arts Sutton Gallery

Arts Sutton was founded in 1980 by a group of artists and residents who wanted to set up a place to display visual art and arts & crafts of local artists.

The mission of Arts Sutton Gallery is to promote and display works created by professional artists, exhibit artistic achievements of all its members, organize activities for young people to make them aware of the arts in general and the visual arts in particular, enhance and promote artistic excellence, talent and creativity.

In 1986, Arts Sutton Gallery was recognized by the Ministry of Culture and Communications of Quebec as an artists’ centre for the promotion of art and received its first grants, making it possible for the gallery to move into the gymnasium of the former Sutton elementary school. Since 1994, the gallery has been funded by members, private donors and the Town of Sutton.

The gallery develops activities to increase young people’s awareness of the arts, works with educational institutions, and organizes major public events to bring together the entire community.

It establishes ongoing collaborations, exchanges and partnerships with other organizations in the town and region. Art Sutton Gallery holds exhibitions and a number of other activities, in addition to the exhibitions, such as lecture series by well-known figures in the cultural community, discussions, workshops to introduce elementary and high school students to the arts and many other stimulating projects.

Workshops for elementary and high school students are offered by the gallery, usually early in the calendar year and in the summer. Workshops are free and are given by artists in the region who are committed to the artistic development of youth.
