Regroupement interculturel of Drummond

The city of Drummondville is a rather big city of 60 thousand inhabitants located in the Centrl Quebec administrative region.

Drummondville is an industrial center well-known for its mechanical engineering, metallurgy, electric and electronic parts, composite materials, plastics and high technology manufacturing, including digital disks and CD-ROM.

The Regroupement interculturel de Drummond (R.I.D.) and the City of Drummondville are ready to cater for the needs of those new residents of Quebec who are about to settle in Drummondville and want to have more information to facilitate their integration. The Regroupement is a non-profit organization backed up by the Ministère des Relations avec les citoyens et citoyennes. It’s the only organization in Drummondville area that directly takes care of immigrants. It aims at facilitating integration of immigrants and inducing local people to welcome them, to discover them and to grow in touch with these new citizens of Quebec.

The R.I.D. regroups three committees:

  • Accueil et intégration (Welcome and Integration);
  • Activités et relations interculturelles (Intercultural Activities and Relations);
  • Communications.

The mission of the Accueil et intégration committee is to welcome newcomers, help them and facilitate their integration. For instance, the committee prepares arrival of refugees selected by the ministry and sets up an infrastructure to comfortably settle refugees in a week. It supports them for a few months that follow their arrival and helps them to find a job.

As for the Activités et relations interculturelles committee, it fosters linking between immigrants and the local community by offering diverse social and cultural activities.

The Communications committee aims at promoting the R.I.D., facilitating communication between immigrants and the local population as well as distributing information to members, mass media and population in général.

Moreover, the Communications Service of the city is capable of providing documentation and wealth of information regarding municipal services and structures as a whole. The map of the city and public transport network, information bulletin, different leaflets and other sources of information are available there.

This organization will also be happy to refer newcomers to different bodies in many areas of activities such as family, leisure, community centers, culture, sport, education, health, tourism, industry, commerce and more.

Newcomers can contact the Regroupement interculturel de Drummond by calling 819 478-6578.
