Chic-Chocs Mountains

Situated on the Gaspe Peninsula in the Chic-Chocs Mountains, Ski Chic-Chocs offers a wide range of services. The exceptional setting of the Madeleine Mines is where Ski Chic-Chocs offers guided backcountry activities of winter adventure tourism. The area is located at the foothills of the spectacular Chic-Chocs Mountains in the continuation of the Appalachian Mountains.

This mountain destination, unique in the northeast, is an exceptional place for enjoying winter sports and particularly backcountry skiing and trekking.

The terrain includes numerous summits over 3500 feet with steep slopes that offer alpine and tree glade skiing. The snowfall is plentiful and averages 20 feet falling from mid-October to mid-June with maximum coverage usually in January, February and March totalizing an average of more than 10 feet remaining on the ground.

The Chic-Chocs ski season can thus last some five months per year, from mid-December to mid-May. Ski Chic-Chocs are leaders in specialized mountain skills trainings, as a wide range of mountain skills training programs exist, including Avalanche Safety Training level I and II. The enterprise is able to offer a safe environment for practicing winter sports in the Chic-Chocs Nature Preserve and in the Gaspesie Provincial Park, thanks to their experienced guides and sophisticated equipment. In 2008, Ski Chic-Chocs became exclusive suppliers of guided backcountry winter services for the SEPAQ in the Gaspe Provincial Park, as well as members of Adventure Ecotourism Quebec.

Skiers are transported from the door of the Mount Albert Wilderness Lodge to the best winter playground paradise around for a snowshoe day at the summits. Accompanied by certified guides, tourists will make several runs a day each averaging 300 to 400 metres. These runs are made in a wild backcountry setting. Skiers must be ready for a complete day of skiing or boarding outdoors mixed in with rides to the summit in the warmth and comfort of the Catski. This should leave enough time to rest and admire the beauty of the mountain scenery.

The return to the discovery and services centre will be made just before sundown (around 16:00 pm). The lunch is included in the package and is taken in the mountains.
