Hudson Village Theatre
The celebrated Hudson Village Theatre is located in the charming and well-appointed building, thus a converted historic train station in Hudson, a delightful village located on the south shore of the Lake of Two Mountains.
The theatre, founded in 1993, is a professional English language performing arts venue and theatre company offering a diverse selection of year-round programs that, through excellence, aim to inspire, enlighten and entertain.
The theatre made its debut to audiences in 1993 under a large tent next to the parking lot of Mon Village Restaurant with its debut production of Sacred Hearts by Colleen Curran. In 2000, the theatre's founder, Heather Markgraf-Lowe embarked on a campaign to raise funds to renovate the Hudson train station as a theatre.
Once complete, the transformed space proved very comfortable for its patrons who now enjoy a full range of productions by some of Canada's most prominent award-winning playwrights. Today, Hudson Village Theatre is a charming 148 seat fully air-conditioned theatre which still looks like (and serves as) a train station but with an interior that has been amazingly transformed.
The lobby bar and box office is in the old baggage room and the theatre, serving patrons year round, has excellent sight lines and acoustics. Guests can treat themselves to a great afternoon or evening of professional theatre, concerts, film nights, opera, ballet, children’s productions, community events and more. In 2006, the Hudson Film Society was born.
Through this partnership, the Hudson theatre is now equipped with a high definition video projector and a movie screen that descends from the ceiling.
To get to all summer performances, Montreal-area theatre patrons are able to take a chartered train to Hudson from Downtown or Beaconsfield. Upon arrival in Hudson, where the train stops right beside the theatre, visitors have time to stroll through the village, do a little shopping or dine at one of the many charming restaurants before heading over for a first-rate performance.
