The community of Cree Nation of Mistissini is located at the south-east end of Mistassini Lake, the largest freshwater lake in Quebec and in the center of the largest wildlife reserve in Quebec, in Northern Quebec.
Mistissini is the largest Cree community of the James Bay Crees. Indeed, more than 3100 people live here. The Crees of Mistissini have lived in the Mistassini Lake area for thousands of years. For a very long time, the place was just a summer encampment.
The Hudson Bay Company and its contender North West Company established there tehir fur trading posts, in the early 1800. The James Bay Agreement was signed on November 11, 1975 giving the Crees of Mistissini opportunity of further development in their respective communities.
Since then, the Mistissini Crees have been in the tourism industry, offering fishing, adventure and cultural packages of high quality. They provide above standard lodging facilities.
These adventure and cultural packages include activities that relate specifically to the Cree culture, but the locals have the unique ability to customize packages to suit tourists needs focusing on attention to detail to make your trip a memorable experience.
