Hiking trails

The James Bay Region boasts many hiking trails which give access to panoramic views, majestic rivers, mountains, ancient caves and guests can stroll along these trails to admire vast forests.

There are also a few interpretative trails, where hikers will learn the history of the place and more. Besides, certain trails can be used by mountain bikers, VTT and horses.

During the long and snowy winters, these trails are perfect for cross-country skiing. Tourists are astounded by the immensity of the territory, the breathtaking landscapes and the warmth of the inhabitants. In Radisson, the linear Park and Ecology Trail, measuring 1,3 km, lets discover the landscape that makes up the heart of the town. The trail leads to the Hudson Ecology Trail where guests can observe nature and the particularities of the Nordic environment.

From the lookout at the end of the path, hikers get a splendid view of the La Grande River and the installations of the Robert-Bourassa power station. At the Imbeau Lake, tourists can come and enjoy the one and only audio-interpretative water circuit in Quebec. While paddling along the Imbeau Lake shoreline, you will discover natural, geological and human stories connected to the area. The circuit is made up of 12 stops along the lake.

Each stop has its corresponding audio capsule. The local landscape is now recovering from a 1997 forest fire. Guests like the Military Plane crash trail, linear and easy, located 10 km west of Chapais, with a belvedere overlooking a pond behind Lake Caven. Another lovely trail is Mont Springer trail, 2-km long and linear, but difficult. There is a belvedere at the top of Mont Springer.

Don’t forget the Obalski Park of Chibougamau, with several km of trails, both linear and loop (easy and intermediate level). There are cross country skiing paths, snowshoe, mountain bikes, pedestrian, with small wharfs for sport fishing. A rustic path leads to a wooden belvedere offering a superb view of surrounding lakes. Paths are equipped with shelters, picnic stops and ecologic interpretation boards.

Also in Chibougamau, the Mining Discovery Center trail (linear, intermediate level) offers a superb view of surrounding lakes. In Lebel-sur Quevillon, you’ll find a 7-km long trail of easy level.
