Les Gommes de Sapin du Quebec
Les Gommes de Sapin du Québec Inc. (Fir resin) is a company founded by Mr. Jean-Jacques Fortin, a nature lover, in 1988.
The company is located in the heart of the Charlevoix region, a World Biosphere Reserve, in the town of Baie-Saint-Paul. The company produces Balsam fir resin which is known and commercialized under the names of Canada balsam, balsam of fir and Canada turpentine. The oleoresin known under these names is extracted from the balsam fir (Abies balsamea), a domestic North American conifer growing mainly in Quebec.
Since the highest antiquity and on all continents, there are numerous known uses of resin and other true balsams of various origins, and the Canadian First nations were fond of this resource. The company’s products can be found in Quebec natural food centres, natural product stores, and on drugstore shelves.
Guests can visit the plant and learn about gum processing from the gathering to the marketing of the products made of the wonderful natural resource still available in abundance in the Quebec forests.
