Authier-Nord

Authier-Nord is a small community in north-western Quebec, located in the Abitibi-West County. It has a population of about 300.

The region is an outdoors haven, with numerous lakes, rivers, outfitters, as well as the park national d’Aiguebelle near by. Outdoor sports enthusiasts can play to their heart’s content in this area.

Once colonized by lumberjacks and wood industry workers, the community lives off agriculture and tourism. Authier-Nord is well-known for its educational and recreational microforest, spread across 9 square km, which is an introduction to different ecosystems.

Five trails are open to hikers and each one deals with a different species of trees. Interpretive panels on the plant and wildlife are laid along the trails. Visitors are invited to explore them.

Parking and picnic areas, as well as dry toilets are on site. Information centre is located at the entrance of the forest, 3 km from Authier-Nord, southbound.
