Champ de Mars
Champ de Mars is a large place located between Montreal City Hall and the Ville-Marie Expressway. The expanse offers a view of downtown Montreal and Chinatown.
Champ de Mars is notable due to its location and the fascinating archaeological remains. In fact, its two lines of stone running across the surface are one of the few spots in present-day Montreal where you can still see physical evidence of the fortified settlement of colonial times.
The space is surrounded by trees and is a perfect place to relax and soak up some sun. At the beginning of New France, the Champ de Mars was a field reserved for military drills and parades. Old Montreal with its museums, places, lovely streets, is just a short walk from the Champ de Mars.
The subway station Champ de Mars (green line) is located here.
