Montreal Museums
Montreal offers an amazing choice of museums, art galleries and exhibition centers.
The Montreal Museum of Fine Arts (Musée des beaux-arts de Montréal), founded in 1860, is among the most significant art museums in Canada and its oldest. The Contemporary Art Museum (Musée d'art contemporain) displays a collection of post-war Quebec artists.
Montreal also features many history-related museums: the Redpath Museum, the Stewart Museum, the McCord Museum of Canadian History, the Canadian Centre for Architecture, and the Montreal Museum of Archeology and History. Among the city's most popular tourist attractions are science-related collections at the Montreal Biodome, reproducing four ecosystems of The Americas, along with the Montreal Botanical Garden, Montreal Planetarium, Montreal Insectarium, and the Montreal Biosphere. A recent addition to Montreal's museum scene is the Montreal Science Center located in the Old Port.
The Ecomuseum, located in the West Island region of Montreal, attracts many visitors to its outdoor setting complete with animals native to the area.
